This role supports the national Promotions Team in communications, promotion and marketing of Whānau Mārama: New Zealand International Film Festival in Wellington. It is a varied role which includes providing Wellington content for the NZIFF social media channels, pitching media opportunities to Wellington-based media and undertaking promotion of NZIFF 2022 with Wellington networks, as well as liaising with and hosting filmmakers in Wellington, and assisting with events.

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Strong writing skills
  • Knowledge of media in Wellington and confidence in establishing new relationships. Experience with film media is an advantage
  • Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication skills including confidence in cold calling media
  • Excellent computer literacy including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Outlook and experience using project management, scheduling or CRM software/platforms
  • Excellent knowledge of social media platforms, in particular Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn, and YouTube.
  • Demonstrated copywriting skills for both formal and informal online communication
  • Strong research skills
  • Highly organised with excellent attention to detail
  • Experience working autonomously and as part of a team
  • Able to work effectively under pressure 
  • Positive, flexible and outgoing attitude
  • A strong interest in, and knowledge of, film industry and culture is an advantage
  • Full, clean drivers licence

 RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE

  • Support the Head of Communications and Marketing in pitching media interviews with Wellington media, as well as with national media as required.
  • Work with Wellington-based filmmakers on media ideas and support them at interviews
  • Identify angles and interview opportunities for Wellington media to gain coverage of films within the festival 
  • Identify additional opportunities to gain promotion of the 2022 film festival with Wellington media
  • Work with the Promotions Team on identifying and delivering audience development opportunities in Wellington
  • Assist with delivery of marketing activity in Wellington including managing Wellington distribution of programme catalogue
  • Assist with collating material for, and proofing, programme catalogues as require
  • Assist with hosting events in Wellington including managing photographer(s) and assisting with the successufl delivery of Q&As and masterclasses
  • Assist with developing  schedules for visiting filmmakers and host filmmakers in Wellington
  • Contribute to content for NZIFF’s social media channels during NZIFF 2022
  • Oversee Wellington Intern and ensure he/she is gaining NZIFF experience and meeting objectives

TERM OF EMPLOYMENT

This is a contract position for the period of 13 June – 19 August 2022 based in Wellington. The period 13 June – 8 July is 20 hours per week, increasing to full time (40 hours per week) from 11 July – 19 August.
