Help guide a developing organisation supporting children, young people, those with disabilities, families, adults and their wellbeing. We are looking for an Advisory Board member who would like help us grow and thrive as we endeavour to meet the needs of varied and diverse communities. In particular, someone with experience in any of the following areas: strategic/governance background, HR, Chairperson experience (or interest in developing), Ministry funding (Education, Health or Social Development).

The Board will support the work of Dance & Arts Therapy NZ (DTNZ) and provide vision based leadership and strategic advice on governance. The day-to-day operations are led by DTNZ’s Development Manager & Operations Manager, supported by the Founder and Director. The Board-Director relationship is a partnership, and the appropriate involvement of the Board is welcomed.

Specific responsibilities include:

●    Advising on governance and oversight of the organisation and its activities and alignment to the Trust Deed

●    Representing DTNZ to stakeholders and acting as an ambassador for the organisation

●    Providing direction, advice and support to the Director as she implements DTNZ’s strategic plan

●    Utilising strategic relationships with funders, partners, and other stakeholders to leverage/add value to the organisation and achievement of its mission, goals and objectives

●    Advising on approval of the annual budget, audit reports, and material business decisions; advising on fiduciary responsibilities

●    Support with formulation and oversight of policies and procedures

●    Reviewing outcomes and metrics created by DTNZ for evaluating its impact, and regularly measuring organisational performance and effectiveness using those metrics

●    Reviewing agenda and supporting materials prior to board and committee meetings

●    Taking on particular assignments and roles on behalf of the Board

●    Chairperson only: preparing bi-monthly meeting minutes, agenda, documents and distributing to the Advisory Board; chairing the meetings and coordinating the work of the Advisory Board. 

Board terms:
DTNZ advisory board members will serve an initial one-year term, with review for re-appointment. Advisory Board meetings are held bi-monthly. There are currently no committees of the Board. Service on DTNZ’s board of trustees is without remuneration, except for administrative support, travel, and accommodation costs (where applicable) in relation to board members’ duties (and a light lunch catered for meetings). Currently meetings are held remotely due to Covid-19, and can continue to be attended remotely for those outside of Auckland.

This is an extraordinary opportunity for an individual who is passionate about DTNZ’s vision and mission and who has experience in leadership and governance. The selected Advisory Board members will have sound governance experience as a board member or in working with boards, and have demonstrated skills in leadership, strategic thinking, financial management, and communication. We are seeking in particular candidates who are interested in the Chairperson role, with HR experience, with experience with Ministry funding (Education, Health or Social Welfare) and/or with lived experience of a disability and/or from a Māori or Pasifika background.

Ideal candidates will have the following qualifications:

●    Professional experience with significant leadership accomplishments in business, government, community, philanthropy, law or the not for profit sector

●    Demonstrated success as a board member, board chair, or senior executive preferably in the not for profit sector (Chairperson experience or interest in developing this would be welcome)

●    A commitment to and understanding of the DTNZ vision, mission and values, and to guiding and supporting organisational innovation and leadership

●    Savvy diplomatic skills and a natural affinity for cultivating relationships and persuading, convening, facilitating, and building consensus among diverse individuals

●    Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and a passion for improving the lives of vulnerable communities

●    Experience and understanding of new and developing organisations, in contributing to credibility in the community, with stakeholders and funders.
